Biography of Elza Botha
Elza Botha is perhaps better known as Elza Miles, well-known art historian critic, curator, consultant, and teacher. As art historian she has published widely on South African art and her publications include Lifeline out of Africa (1994), The World of Jean Welz (1995), Land and Lives (1997), Nomfanekiso who paints at night (2002), Polly Street: The Story of an Art Centre (2004), and a monograph on Selbi Mvusi in press. Her work is represented in major public, corporate and private collections. She is noted for her feminist work of the 1960s and 70s and for her politically inspired work of the 1980s and 90s. She favours black and white lino and woodcuts, but also works in mixed media on paper and has produced important sculptural work making use of found objects.
